That’s why Neon’s “I Love Boosters,” from the legendary indie auteur Boots Riley, is sending stars Keke Palmer and LaKeith Stanfield to help the people out. Ahead of the May 22 theatrical release of Riley’s long-awaited return to filmmaking, “I Love Boosters” is taking its anti-capitalist energy directly to the pump.
IndieWire can exclusively reveal that Palmer and Stanfield will personally refuel cars during a “boosted” gas giveaway happening tomorrow, Tuesday, May 12, at 10 a.m. PT. Drivers can find the stars at the Shell station located at 8500 West Pico Boulevard in Los Angeles.
The first 70 cars in line will receive free gas courtesy of the film and its ambassadors, with merch also being handed out on-site while supplies last. Following the cult impact of “Sorry to Bother You” and Riley’s acclaimed Prime Video series “I’m a Virgo,” anticipation for “I Love Boosters” has been building steadily ever since its SXSW premiere.
Word of mouth around the film is spreading fast, with the movie opening the 2026 Seattle International Film Festival just last week. That’s just the latest in a string of high-profile showcases for a buzzy press tour that’s put Riley’s latest take on revolutionary politics at the top of nearly every cinephiles’ mind this spring.
