This is a straightforward entertainment news piece reporting direct quotes from band members about venue negotiations. The framing is purely factual—presenting Jones' comments without editorial spin, speculation beyond what he stated, or loaded language. The article balances the band's interest in the Sphere with practical constraints (production, budgeting, timing) and includes context about competing residencies (U2, Metallica) without favoring any party.

Framing may shift if Tool confirms or cancels Sphere residency plans, particularly given the 2027 timeline mentioned.
Guitarist Adam Jones said it’s likely Tool will play Las Vegas’ Sphere at some point, and even revealed that the band was approached to be the first act to perform at the futuristic venue.
Adam Jones told 99.7 The Blitz, “We were supposed to open that place. We were asked, and because of ‘Game of Thrones’ band politics, we just couldn’t make it work. And then they ended up using U2, which I think we probably would’ve gotten bumped anyway.”
He added, “But they have been really enthusiastic about us playing there, so we’ve been talking to them since it opened about doing some kind of residency there. And there’s just a lot of production details and budgeting and money and timing. So it’s complicated. But I think we will do it at some point.”
The topic was broached by bassist Justin Chancellor, who was also present for the radio interview, discussing the desire and potential for more elaborate art aspects to Tool’s live shows, prompting the host to ask directly about the Sphere.
Earlier this year, drummer Danny Carey also spoke about the potential for Tool to play the Sphere, saying the band was in talks for a possible residency in 2027.
Tool will play Sonic Temple Festival this Sunday, May 17th, followed by appearances at Louder Than Life and Aftershock in the fall (tickets available here). The Sphere, meanwhile, is set to host Metallica for a residency running from October 2026 through March 2027 over a span of 24 shows (pick up tickets here).
